.......Set up my main desk again finally. Plugged in my two monitors. I have run a Hannspree HF289H 1920x1200 lcd paired with a FW900 24" widescreen 'graphics professional' CRT set at 1920x1200 @85hz for years.

Now I went to hook them back up again, and the LCD gets blacked out + other flaky things happen. I think nvidia and/or win7 is screwing me.

....... I used to run this setup with a 9600gt in windows vista(64bit) without problems. Now I'm running a gtx260 and windows7-64bit. When I switch the LCD to vga they pair up no problem, but it looks like shit and i shouldn't have to. I am suspecting that all this flakiness is being caused by the hdcp and the nvidia card. I've been considering a major gpu upgrade next month and this might be the last straw that drives me to go with ATI.

There is no DVI option in the Nvidia control panel, even though I ran hdmi to a dvi adapter...

The HDCP is disabled ?? !! -- I'm guessing because it doesn't want the HDCP Hannspree paired with my FW900 which doesn't have HDCP.

Two displays shown in nvidia and windows applets, but the hannspree has no signal message on its scren.

....UPDATE: --- I did manage to get the monitors both working again, after I took the fw900 cable off the video card.. and swapped the LCD plug between ports a few times, waiting after each swtich. Then I turned the LCD and the CRT off, pulled the hdmi cable out and plugged it back in .. plugged the LCD cable into its original port on video card - and it came on, showing the extended (non-primary) desktop. So I plugged the CRT in again, and turned it back on.. and it came on too. So at this moment, they appear to be working sort of like they should. I'm afraid to ever reboot though, let alone move/unplug the pc or a monitor.

....I've done a lot of things trying to get this to work over the last few days. It seems really flaky and not some ABC steps I can repeat over and over. I'll try to repeat my most recent actions next time however. And by the way, the nvidia control panel still says my display (the hannspree) does not support HDCP.

,,,,Even if I can get this to work , I dont want to have to plug and unplug things. reboot over and over , sacrafice a goat , etc. .. every time this happens.

... Maybe one of those HDFURY's would do the trick. They enable HDCP for VGA connections. I'm wondering if I should just go with ATI when I upgrade my gpu next month though. I've never had HDMI problems with my ati cards.
